Rhythm in Acting and Performance is Like Birds of a Feather

Rhythm is the very basic element of life be it your heartbeat, the inhalation and exhalation of your breath to the clock ticking every act that supports life has a rhythm and so does acting. If we talk about rhythm in big words, it is an essential element of drama, which is true indeed. To understand the essence of rhythm in drama let's decode it the easier way. When does drama occur? Let's pen-down the possible situations.

The two basic key elements that help one play around building drama are time and space. Rhythm is that temporal pace in the provided space being reflected or talked of. What defines rhythm? The external factors around the characters or the stimulus from the internal factors.

A rhythm may make or break an act. It is certainly not advised to enact in one rhythm until it justifies the narrative or an individual character. A change is a necessity for the very existence of drama and one has to owe to the performance and derive the meaning to the audience with the required action be it external or internal that reflects variation brings dynamism regardless the length like a parabolic graph including the highs and lows that are played by the performer through pace at times beat and tempo might support the narrative.

A rhythm can be defined through one's walk, one's speech or sounds (a hum, a whine or a growl), an exchange of dialogue, a synchronized body movement (gestures that count from head to toe, an eye-roll to a finger being raised to a certain angle to a smirk just effortless). Rhythm is the reflection of one's emotional state appearing to act as a transition between two scenes, it is required to tap your own emotions in and out. As a spontaneous response to the atmosphere, rhythm serves as an effective tool, developing the coordination and conscious awareness of the performer.

Hence, proved rhythm is the feather XD and you are the birds. For the flight you need to fasten up your wings, stick to them, spread them wide and take a flight.
